Six uplifting facts to put a smile on your face

Watching the news on TV or our smartphones can sometimes be a very sobering experience and it can be very easy to feel down about what’s happening in the world these days.

However, it is important to find little nuggets of happiness where we can. To help you along, here are some little uplifting facts to put a smile on your face:

1. Penguins and puffins ‘propose’ to prospective mates by giving them a pebble as a gift. Once they find a mate, they stay with them for life. Cows are pretty loyal creatures too and have best friends. When they are apart from their friends, they have been known to get stressed.

2. A man in Salem, Oregon in the US goes around hiding $100 bills in toilet paper to surprise strangers. No-one knows who the mysterious philanthropist is.

3. Every year, the Netherlands sends 20,000 tulip bulbs to Canada as a way of thanking the country for their help and support during World War II.

4. There are vending machines in Turkey which give out food for stray dogs and cats when people put empty bottles into them.

5. Most countries in the world use Gross National Product (GDP) as a metric for measuring their prosperity, but in Bhutan, they also use Gross National Happiness as a key indicator of how they country and its people are doing.

6. Forgetful squirrels who can find where they put their acorns end up inadvertently planting thousands of new trees every year.

How to Write A Best-Selling Self-Help Book

Self-help books are a top-selling niche and one where there’s always room for a new voice to offer perspective. However it can be difficult to stand out from the crowd in a market that’s so popular. Here are some excellent tips for writing a self-help book that really sells and is distinctive in the best possible way.

Be authentic

This may sound rather obvious but when you’re drafting your subject, make sure it’s something you genuinely know about. You don’t need to be a qualified professional but personal experience of the subject matter is vital. If you’re only repeating content you’ve learnt from elsewhere your writing will lack conviction and depth. By being authentic and offering the audience something that’s deeply meaningful, you’ll instantly be head and shoulders above those who are simply trying to cash in.

You don’t need to impress

There can often be an almost unconscious need to try and impress the reader by wowing them with your writing prowess. Forget about that. The fact that the reader has picked up your book is praise enough. Instead, treat them like your best friend and talk to them in the same way. This will create a confidence that’s irresistible.

Deliver what the title promises

People pick up self-help books because the title speaks to a need they have within. As the author you have a duty to deliver on what’s being hinted at, and by offering practical and legitimate solutions. Before you start writing make a list of what these solutions are, and craft your book around delivering these answers.

Checking out other self-help books can be a great way to see what works and what doesn’t, as well as getting your own assistance and inspiration. Check out www.upbeatee.com for lots of online books and uplifting content that you can enjoy whenever the mood strikes.
